Meet Levi and Chris- co-owners of South Rock Construction (SRC), a business which offers both construction and handy- man services, based out of Fort Collins, Colorado. These two childhood friends combined their diverse experiences and shared passions to start SRC after realizing that: doing the full job, the right way, at an honest price, and with pride/integrity in the work you do, is hard to come by these days.
How is your business unique?
We are willing to take on any project, no matter how big or how small. Some examples of services the SRC team offers include: remodeling, wood working, custom design, painting, tree trimming, Christmas lights, and junk removal. Levi has experience flipping houses, knowing how to do a “full-gut” remodel, and enjoying creative design. Chris complements these skills with his long history of general handyman and construction experience as well as having a passion for woodworking. Together we are building a small construction company into a machine that further assists the growing need people have in quality work at an affordable price.
How do you engage with your community?
Since Chris is a retired army serviceman, we have a heart for local ROTC young people. They make up a large part of our workforce. Our goal is not only to offer them jobs, but also provide mentorship and guidance as they are at an important transition in their lives.
What advice would you give to other business owners just starting out?
Iron sharpens iron. Chris and Levi are a testament to that. Don’t be afraid to start.
What are some of your proudest moments and the next step you want to take in your business?
We recently landed a large construction job finishing out a commercial development. We hope to one day have the day-to-day operations of the business self-running, so we are freed to expand the business and develop more leaders.
How did Group 1826 help you solve a challenge in your business?
Since South Rock Construction is relatively new, the books needed to be built from the ground up. Levi had prior experience with running a business and knew the importance of this step so that the company can have a strong foundation to continue to grow in a healthy way. The staff at Group 1826 worked with us to go over all our operations to set up our books correctly and tailored to exactly what we needed. It is very comforting to know the team at Group 1826 is keeping a close eye on the books and will contact us immediately if any questions arise. This allows us freedom to focus on the aspects of our business that we are really passionate about such as working on the actual projects and mentoring our staff. Group 1826 also is working with us on tax planning to ensure we are set up in the best position possible to remain in compliance with current tax law, maximize our tax savings, and continue to thrive.
